Dogeared Jewels & Gifts Presents: Limited Edition Fashion Collections with Vintage/Heirloom Style

Limited Edition Gem & Leather Necklace

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 22, 2011

Dogeared, as part of its yearlong 20th birthday celebration, presents their Fall/Holiday 2011 line with two new fashion collections, Limited Edition and Modern Vintage. Each is presented in its own specialty supplement, and joins the Dogeared Forever catalog featuring the current fashion line.

Flea and antique markets in Italy – the arts and crafts of Bhutan – vintage stores in New York City – and the Farmers Markets, beaches, and landscapes of Southern California – all inspired the original jewelry created for Dogeared’s two new limited edition collections. The colors and textures of nature, the techniques and materials of artisans around the world, and the importance of adornment in all cultures inspired the creative vision behind these collections.

Marcia Maizel-Clarke returned from a recent trip to Florence, Italy with gorgeous, gilded, embossed, and painted antique trays she found at a flea market. The colors, textures, and designs of these trays led to collecting richly colored gems that were available only in very limited quantities. These, in turn, became the new Limited Edition Jewels Collection. Large gems, including Carnelian, Labradorite, Grey Onyx, and Cape Amethyst, and small gems and gold-dipped beads are wrapped and hang on 54” leather ties. Each is handmade to order by Dogeared designers and each is one-of-a-kind, and very limited quantities of each style are available this season only. Prices range from MSRP $ 72 – $ 122.

Complementing the large gem necklaces are two versions of a limited edition gem cluster necklace, one with tourmaline and one with pyrite, both on gold-dipped chain. In addition, a limited edition pyrite strand is available. All are 30” long with a MSRP of $ 212.

“Our fall fashion collections have an earthy, artisanal vibe,” explained Marcia Maizel-Clarke Dogeared’s founder and designer. “We’ve encased gemstones with hand-pounded gold and silver, set giant stones in leather with intricate hand-beading, and elevated our definition of ‘handmade’ by incorporating new methods and techniques.”

The Dogeared Collection: Modern Vintage is all about updated classics. Designs have vintage, heirloom feel, but with thoroughly modern overtones. Warm gold and cool oxidized silver combined with gemstones and new custom designed, hand-cast charms together create distinctive necklaces and earrings. New charms include an Antique Cross, Clover Disc and Amulet, and are layered with pearls, carnelian, aventurine and pyrite gemstones. A group of three leather wrapped and gold dipped bead studded teardrop necklaces on chain, with labradorite, onyx, and carnelian gemstones complete the collection. The design direction of this catalog supplement grew out of Merlin Clarke’s travels in Bhutan. He brought back gorgeous hand woven, hand dyed fabrics for Marcia, which appear in the book and inform the aesthetic. The jewelry comes individually boxed, with MSRP ranging from $ 52 – $ 132.

“Having the opportunity to travel, so see the handiwork from other cultures and from different time periods was inspiring – and not just in terms of design. The quality of the workmanship was magnificent, confirming again our commitment to making all our jewelry by hand in Los Angeles,” continued Maizel-Clarke. “We are proud of the quality and craftsmanship of Dogeared jewelry. We know it is what makes our jewels truly special and indescribably unique.”

As Dogeared continues to explore new materials and techniques, it remains committed to decreasing its environmental footprint. All sterling charms are 100% recycled silver, and catalogs, cards, and packaging are printed on mixed sources, The company works with suppliers and casters who share their environmental commitment, and all the jewelry and gifts are handmade in Dogeared’s Southern California studios.

Retail prices range from approximately $ 18 to $ 212. The wholesale catalogs are viewable online at http://www.dogearedwholesale.com.
